  • In Memory of Professor LO Kwok Hung

    Date : 25 July 2024

    Dear Fellows and Members,

The College of Surgeons of Hong Kong announces with great sorrow the loss of a highly respected Fellow.

Professor Lo Kwok Hung passed away in the morning on 23rd July 2024 at the age of 85. Professor Lo graduated from The University of Hong Kong in 1966 and underwent surgical training at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He further honed his skills with overseas training in Glasgow, Scotland. In the 1980s, he established his own surgical team shortly after the opening of the Princess Margaret Hospital, where he served until his retirement in 2000. In 2003, he was conferred an Honorary Clinical Professorship by The Chinese University of Hong Kong in view of his significant contribution to surgical education and training.

He was a founding member of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong in 1989 and served as the College's President from 1999 to 2002. During his Presidency, he reactivated the prestigious G.B. Ong Lecture as an annual event during our Annual Scientific Meeting. Moreover, he was instrumental in establishing the Mrs. Esther F.C. Wu Memorial Travelling Scholarship, which has enabled generations of young surgeons in Hong Kong to travel overseas, acquiring new ideas and surgical techniques to benefit the surgical community as well as the public.

His unwavering dedication, exceptional surgical skills, and immense contributions to the field of surgery have left an indelible mark on the medical landscape of Hong Kong. On behalf of our College, we extend our sincerest condolences to Professor Lo’s family during this difficult time. May they find solace in the knowledge that his legacy will continue to inspire and guide future generations of surgeons.

    Yours faithfully,

    Professor Kent-Man CHU
    President
On behalf of the College Council
